Adopt-a Highway Trash Pickup

We will return to Ballground for the next trash pickup event on April the 18th @ 10:00am.  Please plan to join us to continue our involvement in a very mineral-rich area of our beautiful state.  We will eat lunch @ Two Brothers BBQ after the clean up work.

Directions to the meeting place: Take 1-75 North to I-575 North. Go 35 miles to exit 27 (Bus.5) – the Howell Bridge Rd/Ball Ground Exit. Go right to the stop sign and left on Bus.5/Canton Highway.  We will meet 0.6 mile on the left, at the Thriftown/Conoco Station. Please park on the side away from the store. It takes about 30 minutes from I-75/I-575 to our meeting site.

The GMS Adopt-a-Highway Trick or Trash Pickers
October 27th (2007) GMS held its increasingly popular Halloween Trick or Trash Pickup in Ballground, Georgia, along Highway 5. Her Grace Sister Mary Kim (aka Kim Cochran) and The Mad Hatter (aka Bill Waggener) led the motley crew of 24 along the one-mile stretch leaving a trail of 22 pumpkin-orange trash-filled bags. Traffic slowed to a crawl at times as drivers were doing double-takes and taking pictures of the big mustached nun, the axe victim, Gilligan and the Skipper, and the other costumed pickers. When we were finished Bill Waggener had door prizes for all, and we then had a great BBQ lunch at “Two Brothers BBQ” restaurant. Funny thing, though, none of the other patrons would sit near us! After lunch and re-energizing Farmer John (aka Charles Carter) led us on a field trip to nearby Little Garnet Hill to collect almandine garnets, and everyone collected lots of small but wellformed garnets. It was another very successful and fun GMS outing.
