president and long time member Doug Daniels will present a significant and
timely program on Asbestos.
Asbestos
can be found in and around the specimens we collect. We may even bring the
Asbestos home with us. Doug will help us become better informed about how to
recognize Asbestos and know which specimens may contain or be found near
Asbestos.
There may
be no more important program this year. Please join us!

Friends, Romans, Rockhounds, Lend me your Photos!I'm attempting to put together a computer slide show about GMS. One use for this presentation may be to help explain what a great group we are and why folks should become members. Our May show is one place this might be used. To create this presentation, I need to borrow your photos of GMS activities, field trips, finds, etc. Please let me copy the most interesting of your prints, slides and negatives. I would like to highlight the most fun aspects of GMS, particularly those involving juniors. If you have older photos I would also like to capture images of members from 'yestermillenium'.Let me know if you have any ideas or suggestions about what should be included in the presentation.If you have images already on computer disk, all the better (less work for me . . .).Thanks!Carl programs@gamineral.org programs@gamineral.org

GEORGIA MINERAL SOCIETY, INC.

If this date
falls on a holiday, the Society will meet on the THIRD
Monday
of the month. The meeting takes place at 7:30 PM.
In the month of October, the society holds a banquet in place of its
general
meeting. June brinqgs the annual GMS picnic and auction in
place
of the general meeting.

From I-285
Northbound / I-85 Southbound:
-
From I-285,
take I-85 South (Exit 33) at Spaghetti
Junction. Take first exit at Chamblee-Tucker Rd. (Exit 94) and turn
right.
Continue on Chamblee-Tucker Rd. past Shallowford Rd. (road bares to
left
at light) Buford Highway and DeKalb-Peachtree Airport. Turn left on New
Peachtree Rd. and make next left on Clairmont Rd. at next light.
Library
is on left.

From I-85
Northbound:

Get off at
Clairmont Road Exit (91) and turn left
to go North on Clairmont. Library is on right about 1 1/2 miles North
of
Buford Highway.

From I-285
Southbound:
-
Take
Peachtree Industrial Blvd. (Exit 31) and
turn right. Go about 2 miles and turn left onto Clairmont Rd. Library
is
on left about 1/2 mile.

From South
(Decatur):
-
Take
Clairmont Road North. Library is on right
about 1 1/2 miles North of Buford Highway.

West:
-
Take
Peachtree Industrial Blvd. to Clairmont Road
and turn right. Library is on left about 1/4 mile past railroad
overpass.

The
Dunwoody Library
is located in northern DeKalb County on Chamblee-Dunwoody
Road, just
South of the intersection of Mount Vernon Road.
DIRECTIONS:

From
I-285 Westbound:
Take
North Peachtree Rd. (Exit 31). At end of exit ramp continue straight on
access road (Cotillion Dr.) At second light, turn right onto North
Shallowford
Rd. At first major intersection, North Shallowford Rd. becomes
Chamblee-Dunwoody
Rd. Continue straight for about 1 1/2 mile. Library is on right just
after
light at Womack Rd.
- From
I-285 Eastbound:
Get
off at Chamblee-Dunwoody Rd. (Exit 30) and turn left. About 3/4 mile at
intersection with North Shallowford Rd. and Peeler Rd. turn left to
stay
on Chamblee-Dunwoody Rd. Library is on right about 1 1/2 mile, just
after
light at Womack Rd.
- From
Perimeter Mall:
Take
Ashford Dunwoody Road until it deadends at the Mount Vernon Rd. and
turn
right. At next intersection, turn right onto Chamblee-Dunwoody Road.
Turn
left onto Library parking lot just before first light.
- From
South (Chamblee):
Take
Chamblee-Dunwoody Road North. About 3/4 mile after crossing over I-285,
at intersection with North Shallowford Rd. and Peeler Rd. turn left to
stay on Chamblee-Dunwoody Rd. Library is on right about 1 1/2 mile,
just
after light at Womack Rd.
